2014 is going by so fast so we had to take a moment to reflect… The Spring Conference was the largest crowd we‘ve had since 2007; seems the retail economy has strengthened over the past few years, or better yet, a need for more collaboration between merchandise suppliers and their retail customers was in order.
Kevin Smith, former SVP Supply Chain for CVS led off Tuesday morning with a spot on his presentation, "The Changing Role of Collaboration in the Retail Supply Chain," Kevin talked about the new way we need to look at retail supply chains and inventory management in the omni-channel world. RVCF would also like to thank The Container Store team for a fantastic job of putting together a multi-faceted presentation around their new VIPer Vendor Inbound Performance App. Of course, there were other speakers and programs and we would like to thank all of those who made the Spring Conference a great event!
Looking forward, RVCF will be a hosting a one-and-a-half day workshop September 10-11 at the Teaneck Marriott at Glenpointe in Teaneck, NJ. The program is focused on Root Causes for Retail Deductions and this deep dive program will hopefully assist merchandise suppliers to better understand how errors occur in the order fulfillment cycle and why they lead to expensive chargebacks. For more information about this program, click here.
Next, RVCF has been doing a number of studies and those findings will be presented in the second half of 2014. Lora Cecere from Supply Chain Insights will present a webinar on the Best-in-Class Retail Vendor Scorecard. Secondly, RVCF, Compliance Networks and Auburn University professor Brian Gibson will be conducting an ASN Accuracy Study. This study will collect ASN data from the Nation's largest retailers to better understand the trends of supplier performance. It's an update to the 2010 and 2012 studies, so it should start to shed some light as to one of the elements to the "Perfect Order." It will be presented at the RVCF Annual Fall Conference. The next study that RVCF is facilitating is the "Vendor Interface of the Future." Today, many retailers use Vendor Portals to communicate with their merchandise suppliers, but how will retailers be communicating with those suppliers in the future? We believe technology will replace "paper push" that goes on today between trading partners. This study will explore the following three competencies: Supply Chain, Inventory, and Financial. It will be presented by the study's sponsors Apex Analytix, Retail Solutions, Inc., and Compliance Networks, also at the RVCF Annual Fall Conference.
Talking about the RVCF Annual Fall Conference, most of the agenda is now complete. We're still waiting for retailers to commit to individual breakouts, but all in all, it's one beast of an agenda. This year we're focused on the Future of Retail-Supplier Collaboration, RFID, Inventory Planning & Forecasting, Doing Business in Canada, Perfect Order, Omni-Channel, RTV's, New Retail Requirements that Suppliers Need to Better Understand, and Stuff that Goes Missing. Plus, over 650 Retail-Supplier One-on-Ones.
I assure you, we will not disappoint!
Enjoy your Summer!
