2014 Initiative - RTV's
One of RVCF's 2014 initiative will be a deep dive into best practices for Returns to Vendor (RTV's) where step by step business processes will be developed to offer both retailers and their merchandise suppliers the ability to return merchandise in an efficient, economical way that is, more importantly, easy to reconcile financially.
RVCF has asked six retailers, six merchandise suppliers and a few third party service providers to participate in an RTV advisory group. Here are the three scenarios that we will initially explore:
- RTV's on merchandise received by a retailer where goods were not ordered
- Damaged or unsellable (better priced merchandise)
- Ordered online and returned to store
We will take a look at the common practices of corporate return policies, retailer terms and conditions, vendor agreements, sales/buyer negotiated agreements, returns handling, return authorization/credit memo cycle, reverse logistics, and receipt and reconciliation.
The deliverable will outline a series of events that will take place for each RTV listed above showing recommendations on how to best return goods to vendors, demonstrating the steps necessary to achieve speed, identification, logistics, and receipt.
